Mantis Stalks the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole behind Him

The Chinese idiom ‘螳螂捕蝉’ means
Mantis Stalks the Cicada, Unaware of the Oriole behind Him.
This Chinese idiom explains that
people are sometimes so focused on one thing that they do not see other important things going on around them.

This app included six animated stories in both simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese.
The following two stories are from two different authors, but explain the same idiom.

1. Chinese idiom animated story

There was a cicada hiding under a leaf.

The cicada was singing so happily that it didn’t notice there was a mantis staring at it.

While the mantis was stalking the cicada,
it was concentrating too much to realize there was a bird that was trying to catch and eat it.

This idiom tells us:
People often put too much focus on the profits and forget to notice the dangers behind it.

2. Chinese idiom comic strips

We also provide a Chinese idiom comic strip, including an explanation and words that help readers learn the meaning.
